The Managed Care Industry has grown dramatically over the last thirty years and has become a significant part of the nation's health care delivery system. Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) have been instrumental in developing service delivery models that result in better health outcomes and reduced costs.

"Case Management is defined as a collaborative process that assesses, plans, implements, coordinates, monitors and evaluates options and services to meet a client's health needs through communication and available resources to promote quality, cost-effective outcomes."

Organized as a not-for-profit 501-C-4 corporation, The Health Plan of the Upper Ohio Valley, Inc. is a federally qualified Individual Practitioner Association (IPA) type HMO that has provided health care options to employers and individuals since 1979.

With offices located in Massillon, Ohio; Morgantown, WV; and St. Clairsville, Ohio, The Health Plan today has approximately 170,000 group health members and is nationally recognized for a commitment to quality.

In 1997, The Health Plan Managed Workers' Compensation Program was introduced. As a certified MCO participating in the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation's (BWC) Health Partnership Program, The Health Plan was presented the opportunity to apply over twenty years of Managed Care experience to Ohio's Workers' Compensation system.
